Carla McAdams
My journey on the path of yoga began as a teenager, when my brother and I taught ourselves surya namaskar, the sun salutation, from a book on yoga. That journey has taken many turns since, all of them leading to this moment of grace and the gratitude I feel each time I step on my mat to practice or teach yoga. My ongoing love of yoga and its power to transform the lives of all who practice it has led me to study yoga seriously for the past many years, extensively in the Kripalu tradition, but also in the Iyengar, Anusara, and Viniyoga styles.
I received my 500 hour professional certification from the Kripalu Center of Yoga and Health in 2005, and am committed to teaching the open-hearted, energy-based yoga of the Kripalu tradition. During my program I was privileged to study with several senior Kripalu teachers, including Yoganand Michael Carroll, Sudhir Jonathan Foust, Tarika Diana Damelio, Sudhakar Ken McCrae, and Kathleen Knipp; as well as with other noted yoga instructors, including Gary Kraftsow, Donna Farhi, Roger Cole, and Todd Norian. I completed an advanced pre-natal yoga certification in 2008, and am completing a Yoga for Scoliosis Teacher Certification with Elise Browning Miller. I also take a variety of advanced trainings each year to further expand my knowledge of all aspects of yoga.
Teaching has always been a part of my life. I have a Masters Degree in Education and spent 15 years teaching elementary and middle school, plus adult ESL (English as a Second Language) classes. In addition to teaching yoga, I am a nationally certified fitness instructor with 13 years experience.
I am committed to creating a yoga experience whereby each student discovers the strength. beauty, and joy of their inner Self through yoga. I am especially interested in the therapeutic applications of yoga practice, as related to chronic conditions, disease, and the process of aging.
