If you’ve ever groaned, "Oh, my aching back!" you are not alone. According to the National Institutes of Health, back pain affects 8 out of 10 people at some point during their lives. Join us in this workshop series to learn how you can use the tools of yoga to help reduce or eliminate back pain. These fun and informative workshops—which consist of lecture, discussion, experiential exploration, and a therapeutic yoga practice—will empower you to take charge of your own healing! All levels are welcome.

Part 1: Healing Yoga for the Low Back
Saturday, January 21, 1–3:30 pm

In this workshop you will learn yoga tools and techniques to prevent or reduce low back pain and build a foundation for good low back health. Topics covered include:
    Lower Back
  • Anatomy 101
  • Common causes of low back pain
  • The mind-body connection

  • A therapeutic yoga practice for the low back

Part 2: Healing Yoga for the Upper Spine
Saturday, February 11, 1–3:30 pm

Learn simple, effective practices for releasing tension and relieving pain in your neck and upper back. Part lecture and part yoga experience, the workshop includes:Upper Back

  • The role of stress in upper back and neck pain

  • A therapeutic yoga practice for the upper back and neck

Margy S,arogaMargy Smariga, RYT-500, Certified Yoga Therapist
Margy is a graduate of Bagheera Yoga/PruYoga’s 200-hour teacher training, the American Viniyoga Institute’s (AVI’s) 500-hour advanced teacher training, and AVI’s yoga therapist training. Her primary teacher, Gary Kraftsow, developed the protocol used in an NIH-funded study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine demonstrating the effectiveness of yoga in relieving chronic low back pain.

Fun for the Whole Family!
Family Yoga
Sundays, February 12, March 11   1-3pm $15/adult + kid $5 each additional person
Relax together, play together, enjoy yoga and have fun! Family Yoga is a joyful time spent playing games, working on partner and group poses, and letting go of worries and to-do lists for the afternoon. This is a great opportunity to try yoga or introduce a family member to the practice.

Kids Yoga workshops and classes are taught by Regina Crampton, Beth Sakemiller, and Leta Brown, beloved local elementary school teachers, yoga students themselves, and certified Kids Yoga teachers.

Classes for Winter

You & Me Yoga at Mountain Spirit
2-4 year olds + adult Fridays 9:30-10:15am

Stories, games, songs, and movement combine for a special time to share with your little one. Toddlers will express themselves through movement and celebrate their growing bodies & minds with you and their friends.

Playful Spirit Yoga for Primary Students
K-2nd grade Wednesdays 3:45-4:45pm

Children can explore their budding independence in a safe and nurturing environment, where we will PLAY, sing, make new friends, tell stories & make up new ones- all while moving our bodies in age-appropriate yoga postures.

Rising Spirit Yoga for Elementary Students
3rd-5th grade Fridays 4:45-5:45pm

Youngsters will build social skills through playful interaction in group games and partner work. Fun and challenging poses foster strength and pride. Opportunities to quiet the mind to help children relax and explore their feelings.

Soaring Spirit Yoga for Middle Schoolers
6th-7th grade Fridays 3:30-4:30pm

Through poses, games, and relaxation, preteens develop self-awareness, stability, strength, and flexibility – in body, mind, and spirit.

Mountain Spirit Teens
8th-9th grade Tuesdays 3:30-4:30pm

Our yoga practice helps develop body confidence, respect for self and others, and coping skills to deal with the unique issues that teens face. Helps establish healthy fitness habits & is a perfect complement to sports & dance.


All kids yoga classes cost $96/8wks. $15 drop-in/week
